INTRODUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Aims and Scope

The aim of the Korean Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (Kor J Oral Maxillofac Pathol) is to publish manuscripts of high scientific quality representing original clinical, diagnostic or experimental work in oral pathology and biology.
Papers bring new knowledge and observations from the application of techniques within the spheres of light and electron microscopy, tissue and organ culture, immunology, histochemistry and immunohistochemistry, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry and molecular biology.
The Korean Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology which was launched in 1967 is published six times(end of February, April, June, August, October, December).
Review papers on topical and relevant subjects will receive a high priority and articles requiring rapid publication because of their significance and timeliness will be included as “Short communications” not exceeding two printed pages.
All submitted manuscripts falling within the overall scope of the Journal will be assessed by at least two suitably qualified referees.

Submission of Manuscript

Manuscript submission should be made through the journal’s online submission system (http://kaomp.submission.or.kr) by following the designated procedures.
The first page should contain, in clearly separated sections, the tile of the article, the author's(s), name(s), institution(s) to be attributed and address.
A short title, not exceeding 40 letters and spaces, should be provided to be used as a running head.
The publication fee for an accepted manuscript is KRW 200,000 (based on 8 pages), and an additional KRW 40,000 will be charged for each extra page.
After being filled in blank, checklist for original Article and Statement of Copyright Transfer have to be sent to editor in chief during submission.

Research and publication ethics

Informed Consent: The manuscripts related to the human subjects or samples drawn from humans should receive the informed consent according to the rule of Institutional Review Board of author's institute.
If manuscripts include clinical trials, the clinical trials registration number should be got after the registration to the WHO accredited registration centers such as CRIS (http://cris.cdc.go.kr/).
Statement of Human and Animal Rights: Authors should keep the ethical and standard of Institutional Review Board of author's institute and the Helsinki Declaration in 1975 (revised in 2008).
In case of animal experiment, authors should keep the institutional or national guideline for the care and the use of laboratory animals.
Paper fraud follows the COPE flow chart. For the policies on the research and publication ethics not stated in these instructions, “Good Publication Practice Guidelines for Medical Journals (http://kamje.or.kr/publishing_ethics.html)” or “Guidelines on good publication (http://www.publicationethics.org/resources/guidelines)” can be applied.
If there are any ethical issues from the manuscripts, it should be handled in accordance with the regulations of the Research Ethics Committee of the Korean Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology.
Use of Generative AI or AI-Assisted Technologies: Authors must disclose the use of generative AI or AI-assisted technologies in the research, specifying the purpose and the AI service(s) used.

Peer review

Every manuscript received is circulated to two peer reviewers. The author's name and affiliation is not disclosed during review process to reviewers.
The review process can be repeated till three times if the request of revision is suggested by reviewers.
If the re-review is repeated more than three times, it may not be considered for publication.
If two reviewers do not agree to accept the journal, it may not be also considered for publication.
Usually the first review process ends within one month.

Manuscript Editing

The finally accepted manuscript will be reviewed by manuscript editor for the consistency of the format and the completeness of references.
The manuscript may be revised according to the opinion of the manuscript editor.
The article should be clearly divided as follows:

Abstract page

In original articles a separate page should contain a structured abstract not exceedinq 250 words.
Use the following headings: Background, Methods, Results, Conclusions and 3-8 key words in strict accordance with Index Medicus(Medical Subject Headings).
In review articles and case reports a separate abstract page should contain: a) authors' surnames followed by their initials;
b) title of article; c) abbreviated title of journal(Kor J Oral & Maxillofac Pathol);
d) an abstract of no more than 250 words; e) key words and f) the name and address of the author responsible for correspondence.

Introduction

Clearly state the purpose of the article. Give only strictly pertinent references, and do not review the subject extensively.

Material and methods

Provide enough detail to ensure the reader could repeat the described procedures, including statistical testing

Results

Present your results in logical sequence in the text, tables, and illustrations.
Do not repeat in the text all the data in the tables, illustrations, or both: emphasize or summarize only important observations.

Discussion

Emphasize the new and important aspects of the study and conclusions that follow from them.
Do not repeat in detail data given in the Results section.
Include in the Discussion the implications of the findings and their limitations and relate the observations to other relevant studies.

Acknowledgements

Acknowledge only persons who have made substantive contributions to the study.

References

These should be kept to the pertinent minimum and numbered consecutively in the order in which they appear in the text.
Identify references in text, tables, and legends by arabic numerals(in parentheses).
References cited only in the tables or figure legends should be numbered in accordance with a sequence established by the first identification of that figure or table in the text.
Use the style of the examples below, which are based on the formats used in Index Medicus.
Try to avoid using abstracts as references. Include manuscripts accepted, but not published;
designate the abbreviated title of the journal followed by(in press).
Titles should be abbreviated in accordance with the style used in Index Medicus and the Vancouver System.

Case reports

Case reports should follow the format below.
1. Abstract. 2.Description of case, no introduction. Give as short and precise description of the case as possible.
Include the necessary documentation (clinical, histological, pictures, etc.). Include a short section with the heading “Comments”.
3.Describe in the comments why the cases are of interest.
Do not include an introduction and more than 5 references, and in all no more than 1 printed page.
The Korean Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology will only publish case reports if they lead to new scientific hypotheses or represent new diseases, or cases with an unusual appearance or extremely rare cases.

Illustrations

All figures should clarify the text and their number be kept to a minimum.
Illustrations should be planned to fit the proportions of the printed page taking into account the two columns.
Text on figures should be in CAPITALS. Micrographs should be designed to be reproduced without reduction.
Submit two copies of each illustration, identifying them with a label on the back which indicates the number, authors name and the top.
Line drawings should be professionally drawn; half·tones should exhibit high contrast.
Figure legends must be typed on a separate page at the end of the manuscript.
Original colour transparencies, as well as two sets of colour prints, should be submitted.
There will be no charge to the author(s) for reproduction of colour artwork.

Tables

Tables should be numbered consecutively with arabic numerals. Type each table on a separate sheet, with titles making them self-explanatory.
Due regard should be given to the proportions of the printed page.

Abbreviations and symbols

Use only standard abbreviations (Vancouver System). All units will be metric. Use no roman numerals in the text.
In decimals, a decimal point, and not a comma, will be used. Avoid abbreviations in the title.
The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a standard unit of measurement.

Page proofs

These will be sent via E-mails as an Acrobat PDF file.
These must be returned to the Production Editor within 3 days of receipt.
At this stage, only minor alterations can be accepted.

1. General guideline
Manuscript contained one original manuscript, statement of copyright trarsfer, and introduction for authors and was dispatched via email (Statement of copyright transfer should be dispatched via PDF file).
Manuscript should be typed in Hangul or other word processor with a space of 30 mm from upper, lower, left and right margin, 10.0 pt in font size, and line space of 200%.
Text consisted of cover page, title page, abstract, main text, references, tables and figures in separate pages.
Main text consisted of INTRODUCTION, SUBJECTS AND METHODS, and RESULTS AND DISCUSSION.
Terminology was written by those from recent edition of 'English-Korean Medical Terminology' published by the Korean Medical Association.

2. Cover page
Title, name of authors, affiliation was described both in English and in Korea.
Korean and English abbreviated titles were described (Korean: less than 20 letters, English: less than 10 words).
In lower area of cover page, the name, address, email, telephone, fax of the corresponding author or presentation in the scientific meeting were described.

3. Abstract and Keywords
Word count was equal to or less than 250.
A total number of word count was described below abstract.
Keywords were described from MeSH in Medline if possible.

4. Main text
The order of the subtitle was described according to the Instruction to Authors.
References in the main test were described according to the Instruction to Authors.

5. References
Every articles in REFERENCES were cited in the main text.
Number of reference was less than 20.
References were numbered according to numeric order.
Abbreviated title of the journals were those from Medline or Korea Med.
All references were written in English.
The papers from Korean Journal of Medical Education were cited if the content is relevant.
The reference style was followed by the Instruction to Authors.
PDF file for the journal reference which is not indexed in KoreaMed or PubMed was included.

6. Tables and figures
The titles and legends of tables and figures were written in English.
Photos were in required format.
The numbers of tables and figures were described according to the Instruction to Authors.

목적 및 범위 (Aims and Scope)

대한구강악안면병리학회지(Kor J Oral Maxillofac Pathol)의 목적은 구강병리학 및 생물학 분야에서의 원래 임상, 진단 또는 실험적 연구를 대표하는 높은 과학적 품질의 원고를 출판하는 것이다.
논문은 광학 및 전자현미경, 조직 및 기관 배양, 면역학, 조직화학 및 면역조직화학, 미생물학, 유전학, 생화학 및 분자생물학 분야의 기술 적용에서 새로운 지식과 관찰을 제공한다.1967년에 창간된 본 학회지는 매년 6회(2월, 4월, 6월, 8월, 10월, 12월 말) 발행된다.
시의적절하고 중요한 주제에 대한 리뷰 논문은 높은 우선순위를 가지며, 중요성과 시급성으로 인해 신속한 출판이 필요한 논문은 두 페이지를 초과하지 않는 " Short communications "으로 포함된다.제출된 모든 원고는 학회지의 전체 범위 내에 해당하는 경우 적격한 심사자 두 명 이상에 의해 평가된다.

원고 제출 (Submission of Manuscript)

논문투고는 본 학술지의 논문투고 시스템 (http://kaomp.submission.or.kr)에 접속하여 절차에 따라 투고한다. 첫 페이지에는 제목, 저자명, 소속기관 및 주소를 명확히 구분된 섹션으로 포함해야 한다.
40자(공백 포함)를 초과하지 않는 짧은 제목을 제공하여 러닝 헤드로 사용한다. 게재 승인된 원고의 개제료는 20만원(8페이지 기준)이며, 추가 페이지당 4만원이 부과된다.
원고 제출 시 원고 체크리스트와 저작권 양도 동의서를 작성하여 편집장에게 제출해야 합니다. 자세한 사항은 편집장 이메일로 문의하기 바람.

연구 및 출판윤리 (Research and publication ethics)

동의서: 인간 대상 또는 인간에서 채취한 샘플과 관련된 원고는 저자의 기관의 기관윤리심의위원회(IRB) 규정에 따라 동의를 받아야 한다.
임상시험이 포함된 경우 WHO 인증 등록센터(CRIS, http://cris.cdc.go.kr)에 등록 후 등록번호를 받아야 한다.
인간 및 동물 권리 선언: 저자는 기관의 IRB 기준 및 헬싱키 선언(1975년, 2008년 개정)을 준수해야 한다.
동물 실험의 경우, 실험동물의 관리 및 사용에 대한 기관 또는 국가 지침을 따라야 한다.

동료 심사 (Peer review)

모든 원고는 두 명의 심사자에게 전달된다. 심사 과정에서 저자의 이름과 소속은 심사자에게 공개되지 않는다.
심사자는 최대 세 번까지 수정 요청을 할 수 있으며, 세 번 이상 재심사가 반복될 경우 게재가 어려울 수 있다.
두 심사자가 모두 게재를 반대할 경우, 해당 원고는 게재되지 않는다. 일반적으로 첫 번째 심사 과정은 한 달 이내에 종료된다.

원고 편집 (Manuscript Editing)

최종 승인된 원고는 형식의 일관성과 참고문헌의 완전성을 위해 원고 편집자가 검토한다. 원고는 편집자의 의견에 따라 수정될 수 있다.
논문은 다음과 같이 명확히 구분되어야 한다.

a. 초록 (Abstract page)

Original articles 은 250단어 이하의 구조화된 초록을 별도의 페이지에 작성해야 하며, 배경, 방법, 결과, 결론 및 Index Medicus(Medical Subject Headings)에 따라 3~8개의 핵심어를 포함해야 한다.
리뷰 논문 및 증례 보고는 별도의 초록 페이지에 저자 성과 이니셜, 논문 제목, 학회지 약어(Kor J Oral & Maxillofac Pathol), 250단어 이하의 초록, 핵심어, 교신 저자의 이름과 주소를 포함해야 한다.

b. 서론 (Introduction)

논문의 목적을 명확히 기술하고, 관련성 있는 참고문헌만을 제시하며 주제를 광범위하게 리뷰하지 않는다.

c. 재료 및 방법 (Material and methods)

독자가 기술된 절차를 반복할 수 있도록 충분한 세부사항을 제공하며 통계 검정도 포함한다.

d. 결과 (Results)

결과는 텍스트, 표, 그림에서 논리적 순서로 제시하며, 표나 그림의 모든 데이터를 텍스트에서 반복하지 않고 중요한 관찰만 강조하거나 요약한다.

e. 고찰 (Discussion)

연구의 새로운 중요 측면과 그로부터 도출된 결론을 강조하며, 결과 섹션의 데이터를 상세히 반복하지 않는다.
논의에는 연구 결과의 함의와 제한점을 포함하고 다른 관련 연구와의 연관성을 기술한다.

f. 감사의 글 (Acknowledgements)

연구에 실질적으로 기여한 사람만을 인정한다.

g. 참고문헌 (References)

관련성 있는 최소한의 문헌만을 유지하며, 텍스트에 등장하는 순서대로 아라비아 숫자로 번호를 매긴다.
표나 그림 설명에서만 인용된 문헌은 해당 표나 그림이 처음 언급된 순서에 따라 번호를 매긴다.
Index Medicus 형식을 기반으로 한 예시 스타일을 사용하며, 초록은 참고문헌으로 사용하지 않도록 한다.
게재 승인된 미출판 원고는 "in press"로 표시하며, 학술지 제목은 Index Medicus 및 Vancouver 시스템에 따라 약어로 표기한다.

h. 증례보고 (Case reports)

증례 보고는 다음 형식을 따라야 한다.: 1. 초록. 2. 증례 설명(서론 없음).
가능한 한 간결하고 정확하게 증례를 설명하며, 필요한 문서(임상, 조직학, 사진 등)를 포함한다.
"논평"이라는 제목의 짧은 섹션을 포함하여 해당 증례가 왜 흥미로운지 설명한다.
서론은 포함하지 않으며 참고문헌은 5개 이하, 전체 분량은 1페이지를 넘지 않아야 한다.
본 학회지는 새로운 과학적 가설을 제시하거나 새로운 질병, 특이한 외형 또는 매우 희귀한 증례일 경우에만 증례 보고를 게재한다.

i. 그림 (Illustrations)

모든 그림은 텍스트를 명확히 해야 하며, 수는 최소한으로 유지한다. 그림은 인쇄 페이지의 비율에 맞게 계획되어야 하며, 두 개의 열을 고려해야 한다.
그림의 텍스트는 모두 대문자로 작성해야 한다. 현미경 사진은 축소 없이 재현될 수 있도록 설계되어야 한다.
각 그림은 두 부 제출하며, 뒷면에 번호, 저자명, 상단 표시가 있는 라벨을 붙여야 한다.
선 그림은 전문적으로 그려져야 하며, 반음톤은 높은 대비를 보여야 한다. 그림 설명은 원고 마지막에 별도의 페이지에 타이핑해야 한다.
원본 컬러 슬라이드 및 컬러 인쇄본 두 세트를 제출해야 하며, 컬러 그림의 재현에 대한 비용은 저자에게 부과되지 않는다.

j. 표 (Tables)

표는 아라비아 숫자로 연속적으로 번호를 매기며, 각 표는 별도의 페이지에 작성하고 제목은 자가 설명이 가능하도록 해야 한다.
인쇄 페이지의 비율을 고려해야 한다.

k. 약어 및 기호 (Abbreviations and symbols)

표준 약어(Vancouver 시스템)만 사용하며, 모든 단위는 미터법을 사용한다. 텍스트에 로마 숫자는 사용하지 않으며, 소수점은 점(.)을 사용하고 쉼표는 사용하지 않는다.
제목에는 약어를 사용하지 않으며, 약어가 처음 등장할 때는 전체 용어를 먼저 제시해야 한다 (표준 측정 단위 제외).

교정본 (Page proofs)

교정본은 PDF 파일로 이메일을 통해 발송되며, 수령 후 3일 이내에 제작 편집자에게 반환해야 한다. 이 단계에서는 소폭 수정만 가능하다.

c. 초록 및 핵심어 (Abstract and Keywords)
단어 수 250 이하.
초록 하단에 총 단어 수 기재.
핵심어는 가능하면 Medline의 MeSH에서 선택.

d. 본문 (Main text)
부제목 순서는 저자 안내에 따름.
본문 내 참고문헌은 저자 안내에 따름.

e. 참고문헌 (References)
모든 참고문헌은 본문에서 인용됨.
참고문헌 수는 20개 이하.
참고문헌은 숫자 순으로 번호 매김.
학술지 약어는 Medline 또는 KoreaMed 기준.
모든 참고문헌은 영어로 작성됨.
관련 내용이 있을 경우 한국의학교육학회지 인용.
참고문헌 형식은 저자 안내에 따름.
KoreaMed 또는 PubMed에 색인되지 않은 학술지의 경우 PDF 파일 포함.

f. 표와 그림 (Tables and figures)
표 및 그림의 제목과 설명은 영어로 작성됨.
사진은 요구된 형식으로 제출됨.
표 및 그림 수는 저자 안내에 따름
